The New FloormapVS2, computerized MFL corrosion detection & sizing for tank bottom inspection using advanced magnetic flux leakage technology. The FloormapVS2 is a major step forward in MFL inspection.

Silverwing (UK) Ltd's latest version of the best selling Floormap MFL tank bottom inspection scanner, the VS2 contains significant improvements in terms of defect positioning, electronic data processing and software manipulation. A new encoder system has been developed which is electronically calibrated to each individual scanner. This new encoder now gives accuracy to within 3 mm on an 8 metre track length.

Abstract:

"BASIC PRINCIPLES OF SOUND

Sound waves are vibrations of the particles of solid liquid or gas through which the sound is passing. Each particle oscillates about a mean position and in doing so causes a similar vibration to be taken up by its neighbour. The resulting disturbance radiates out from the source as a sound wave.

Sound waves are therefore a form of mechanical energy that can only exist in a solid liquid or gas and not in a vacuum. Essentially, there are two requirements for sustaining a vibration: there must be something to vibrate and some force that will always try to return that ‘something’ to its original position. In other words, there must be MASS and ELASTICITY."
 
 

Silverwing ME completes first 1bbl capacity tank

 

Silverwing has completed the tank floor inspection of a 1 billion barrel capacity above ground crude oil storage tank for the Iranian Offshore OiI Company at their Lavan Island terminal, just six months after establishing a base in the Middle East.

Silverwing Middle East General Manager Alan Ashton, who visited the site with the technicians, noted ''The representatives of the client were very impressed with both the quality of the work and also the speed at which the work was completed.

The accuracy of the unique Silverwing FloormapVS system enabled us to not only detect lake type corrosion but also bacterial corrosion within the first 30 minutes of starting the work " Due the extremely high ambient temperatures it was agreed by all parties that the work would be completed during the night when the temperature inside the tank was within safe temperature for the operators to perform their duties.

Silverwing's FloormapVS system is unique, says the company, and offers many user benefits. The system, supported by Handscan system for the areas which are inaccessible, will provide the maximum coverage of the tank floor by Silverwing's MFL technique.

The system has the ability to provide improved defect detection and siding over previous designs; quicker data capture and automatic CAD drawing of the tank floor. It can also provide patch plate design and a bill of material - a major cost saving for the M&E contractor or end user client - along with real time data acquisition and analysis. Other features include combined defect profiling and amplitude analysis, as well as base line data acquisition comparison reports to assist with future asset life and trend projections.

The system also offers full finger print reporting by data addition including MFL handscan results, Digital photos, Visual comments, Manual UT reports comments, Vacuum box reports and MPI inspection reports.

In addition, Silverwing has set up a full after sales service facility in AL Quoz following extensive OEM product training of its technicians. The facility can provide local repair, overhaul and recalibrating services for all Silverwing products.

The Silverwing Vacuum Box has been re-designed to be stronger, lighter and more robust. The V600 now comes with a moulded body and neoprene seal for a perfect seal every time. We now offer both high and low pressure systems for tanks that have been in service as well as new builds. Both models are available configured for use with either an electric pump or an external compressor to generate the vacuum.
